A very good week indeed...

YOUR WEEK IN EVENTS IS WAITING! So get out there and heart your community!

Okay Roanoke... it's a new week and there's a new group forming just for teens at the Raleigh Court Library. So if you're a teen, you like comix and you want something fun and free to do on a Monday, it starts at 3:30 today! On Tuesday, Acoustic Endeavors plays their weekly gig at Blues BBQ and who can pass up that oh so yummy fried okra and good music, not to mention a bazillion varieties or bourbon! For Wednesday, if you haven't already been, then take an hour or so to check out The Senior Art Exhibition at Hollins. We've got some super talented students in this town so show them some love! Speaking of talent... 202 Market is bringing The Biscuit Burners to Roanoke on Thursday. Singer & Musician Mag said it best; "They have a captivatingly unique sound that’s all their own, yet rich with heritage and culture. Their music is a breath of fresh air in this stale period of lifeless pop music culture." And, well if you disagree with that last statement, go listen to your Britney Spears remix and shut up! Or, better yet, get some jazz education on Friday night at the Jeff Center. The Jazz Club is back and this time it's bringing The Frank Vignola Quintet with their custom melding of contemporary gypsy jazz, bluegrass, toe-tapping swing, blues and acoustic rock. And just because there are seats in the music hall doesn't mean you can't dance in front of them, remember that! On Saturday, if you're hangin' locally but feelin' global then take a pleasant detour through Elmwood Park and sample some food or gain some culture from the over 70 countries represented at this year's Local Colors Festival complete with Pearl Fu. Also, Saturday night, one of myScoper's favorite bands returns to 202 Market. The Noises 10 are back in town for only $5! Plus, there are skads of other great events on Saturday so you'll just need to check the site and see what's good for you! And on Sunday... we recommend breathing... take a hike or pick some strawberries the old fashioned way. Whatever you do, relax and enjoy because next week's gonna rock!

YOUR WEEK IN EVENTS IS WAITING! So get out there and heart your community!

Today is Cinco De Mayo! You know what that means, Margarita! Tomorrow, check out "Women Only! In Their Studios" an exhibition at Eleanor D. Wilson Museum at Hollins, and yes, men are welcome too. On Wednesday... 202 Market hosts its weekly Open Jam Session which is FREE and always fun. Thursday's "guys night" at Blues BBQ just keeps getting better and better, including $2 drafts and $5 apps for the men folk! Concert for a Clean Valley is happening Friday. Come join the myScoper girls and many others to sip some wine and groove to some tunes in support of Clean Valley Council at Amrheins Wine Cellars! If you're still feeling philanthropic on Saturday, Gallop for the Greenways is another great way to show your support for our beautiful valley, whether you actually run or just go for the MonkeyFuzz afterparty! And last but not least, Sunday is Mother's Day. Take mom to brunch or maybe a picnic on the parkway, afterall you wouldn't even be reading this if it wasn't for her!

Until next week... Your Friends at

What you should be doing this week...

YOUR WEEK IN EVENTS IS WAITING! So get out there and heart your community!

Good morning Roanokians!! It's a new week with a lot to do so pay attention! Tonight you can catch RSO's version of Mozart's last symphony entitled or more rightly nicknamed "Jupiter Symphony." Want to impress your friends this summer with your killer grillin' skills? Foodies has the class for you on Tuesday... Thrill of the Grill is sure to at least keep your burgers from turning into charred rocks and who knows, maybe gourmet grilling is your calling. On Wednesday, if you're one of the many people in our city who loves your dog like your child then show your support for the new Roanoke City Dog Park and head to Cocktails for a Cause at Trio. Each purchase gets your dog closer to the fully fenced and free doggie wonderland! Thursday is May 1st and with that comes the newest Emerging Artist Opening featuring the likes of Cricket Powell (photographer extraordinaire), Jason Ring (Country blues musician), and free catering by Tong's Thai! YUMMY!

The Weekend...
So if you don't know by now, the art museum is moving, yea, to that new and beautiful space ship parked on Salem Ave. That's right and here's the best part... the old space is transforming Friday night into a what could only be known as 1980s club kid meets eastern european discoteque! Graffiti artists and the fabulous Boogieburg DJs, subklue and cerna, will make "art on the rocks! das klub!" their own. Plus, you can practice your own skillz on the walls and each other, but maybe ask first before the latter! Really, when's the last time you got to draw on the walls at a museum? There's a lot to do on Saturday so go grab a Strawberry Shortcake downtown (yep, it's that time of year again) and then we recommend taking in the 16 Hands Studio Tour in Floyd. Several restaurants in town are even offering picnic lunches so you can make a day of it and soak in the craftsmanship of the tour and of course Floyd, VA! On Sunday, the Grandin is serving up a special one-time-only viewing of "Blindsight," by former Roanoker, Jeff Evans, who will be present for Q&A afterward! The film follows the gripping adventure of six Tibetan teenagers who set out to climb the 23,000-foot Lhakpa Ri on the north side of Mount Everest.

Sounds like a fantastic way to end the weekend and get ready for another great week in the big lick!!

Until then... Your Friends at
